Focus On Podcast - Take One TV Podcast

Emily Guiver of Sweet Dreams Sleep Coaching joins Karen to talk about effective forms of communication within this area of wellness and sleep.

Emily helps parents and children from birth to teens achieve safe and consistent sleep patterns. Communication, even a non-verbal form is important for Emily to understand any reasons for non-sleepers. She provides a gentle and holistic approach (not forceful) and gets to find out the 'bigger picture' for the child as to why sleep is a concern.

Post Covid, face to face meetings have become even more popular and new parents, who often feel quite isolated with a new baby, can be reassured they aren't the only ones struggling.

Emily talks about forms of communication around information gathering, assessing the families she works with and why, realistically, babies won't sleep for 12 hours in a silent environment. Plus we touch on social media.

Approximately 30% of all parents in the UK will describe their birth as traumatic

That’s nearly a 1/3 of all parents

The 3 Step Rewind Process is a gentle, safe and highly successful way of working with parents and other birth professionals or attendees to lift the heavy feelings that can remain after a difficult or traumatic birth, post natal or breast feeding experience, or in fact any other perinatal trauma, or fear of upcoming birth.

Symptoms can include panic attacks, nightmares, flashbacks, anger and irritability, numbness, tearfulness, avoidance of all reminders of the experience, problems in relationships, feelings of failure and more.

Birth partners can also be affected. It doesn't matter how long ago the experience was, it doesn't have to be recent, to still affect someone.

The 3 Step Process is easy to follow and naturally activates a person's own ability to heal themselves by enabling the experience to be detached from the feelings that reliving it elicits. It is important to note, that this process isn't therapy, but is a very gentle process of working through those feelings, being supported and using deep relaxation and guided meditation.

The trauma or fear doesn't have to be spoken about or verbalised, in order for the process to work, though opportunity to talk about the experience, should the client wish, is provided.

Each session lasts between 45 minutes and an hour. The process can be facilitated in person (location dependent), or over video call.

Session one is an opportunity to learn more about the 3 step process, understand how it works and to ask any questions. If comfortable, the client can talk in this session about the trauma they have experienced and any difficult feelings or thoughts that are causing problems for them. It ends with a gentle guided meditation that sets the scene for the second session, and the client receives a copy of this meditation to listen to in between the sessions, to enable them to relax and familiarise themselves with the visualisation.

Session two is the main part of the process, and is where the real magic happens! This is the 'rewind' part of the process, which starts by going through the now familiar and relaxing guided meditation, and expands on it further, rewinding and reprogramming the feelings linked to the trauma, anxiety or phobia, enabling the client to disassociate from this difficult experience, and move on from it and visualise the future they would like to move on to.

Session three is a summary and review of how the client has found the process and to discuss anything that has come up. This session also ends with a relaxing guided meditation to finish the process beautifully and calmly.

Emily provided a safe space where I felt respected and listened to. Even though I had  just met her, I felt as if I could trust her completely.
